It is reported that ADHD symptoms impact between 3% and 20% of students attending post-secondary, thus making ADHD one of the most prevalent self-reported disabilities impacting post-secondary students. The impact of ADHD predominantly impacts students’ ability to complete work and self-manage their workload and schedule, as opposed to learning the content or understanding complex concepts. Academic coaching, a blend of academic strategy instruction, tutoring, and academic advising, is an incredibly effective way to support barriers related to executing functioning skills. After completing 10 academic coaching sessions, students with ADHD said that there were:
- a decrease in symptoms of anxiety
- an increase in their ability to focus and concentrate on academic tasks
- an increase in identifying important information in lectures and readings
- an improvement in multiple areas of test-taking
- positive improvements with their time management
